An anole is a small lizard native to the Americas, typically green or brown with the ability to change color slightly.

Males have a colorful throat fan called a dewlap that they extend during territorial displays or courtship.

The green anole is common in the southeastern United States and popular as a pet: An anole darted across the porch railing.
