anodise

Coat metal electrically

To anodise is to coat a metal, usually aluminium, with a protective oxide layer through an electrochemical process.

The coating resists corrosion and can take dyes, producing the coloured finishes common on bike parts, cookware, and electronics: anodised aluminium panels.

British spelling of anodize.
