anno Domini
In the Lord's
Anno Domini is Latin for "in the year of the Lord," designating years after the traditional birth date of Jesus Christ.
It appears in its abbreviated form A.D. before the year: A.D. 476, A.D. 1066.
The secular alternative C.E. (Common Era) has gained ground in academic and international contexts.
The counterpart for years before Christ is B.C. (before Christ) or B.C.E. (before Common Era).
