amino
Protein building blocks
Amino is a combining form meaning "containing an amine group"—a nitrogen-based chemical structure.
It appears most commonly in amino acid, the building blocks of proteins.
In casual speech, amino often stands alone as shorthand for amino acids: You need to get your aminos after a workout.
