alley oop
Toss-and-slam play
Alley oop is a basketball play where one player lobs the ball near the basket for a teammate to catch in mid-air and score, typically with a dunk: He threw the alley oop and his teammate slammed it home.
The term comes from the French *allez-hop*, a circus cry for acrobatic leaps.
Outside basketball, alley oop describes any coordinated assist or setup between partners.
