handspring

Gymnast's floor move

A handspring is an acrobatic move where you launch forward or backward, land briefly on your hands, and push off to land on your feet.

A front handspring goes forward; a back handspring (or backflip) goes backward.

It's a fundamental gymnastics and cheerleading skill: She did a handspring across the mat.
