air embolism

Vascular gas obstruction

An air embolism is a bubble of air that enters the bloodstream and blocks a blood vessel.

It can occur during surgery, diving accidents, or improperly administered injections.

Small amounts may cause no harm, but larger bubbles can obstruct blood flow to vital organs, potentially causing stroke, heart attack, or death.
