acoustic bass

Hollow wooden bass

An acoustic bass is a bass instrument that produces sound through a hollow wooden body rather than electronic amplification.

The term most often refers to the double bass or upright bass used in jazz, classical, and folk music: The acoustic bass anchored the quartet's sound.

It also describes acoustic bass guitars, which are larger-bodied guitars tuned an octave below standard guitar.
