Grant formal recognition
To accredit is to officially recognize or authorize.
An accrediting body certifies that a school or hospital meets established standards: The university was accredited by the regional commission.
To accredit a diplomat is to formally recognize them as a representative: She was accredited to the embassy in Paris.
To accredit something to a source is to attribute it: The quote is accredited to Lincoln, though probably falsely.
