repudiate
Refuse to acknowledge
Repudiate is to reject or refuse to accept something—a claim, an obligation, a person, or an idea.
You might repudiate a debt, repudiate an accusation, or repudiate a former ally.
The word carries more formal weight than simply deny or reject, often implying a deliberate, public disavowal: The candidate repudiated his earlier statements.
She repudiated any connection to the scandal.
