Yugoslav Partisans

Balkan WWII guerrillas

The Yugoslav Partisans were the communist-led resistance movement that fought against Axis occupation of Yugoslavia during World War II.

Under Josip Broz Tito, they became one of the most effective guerrilla forces in occupied Europe, eventually liberating Yugoslavia largely without Allied ground intervention.

The movement formed the basis for postwar communist Yugoslavia.
