Willamette
Portland's major waterway
Willamette refers to a river and valley in northwestern Oregon, running approximately 187 miles from the Cascade Range to the Columbia River near Portland.
The Willamette Valley is one of the most fertile agricultural regions in the Pacific Northwest, known for wine production, hazelnuts, and berries.
The name, borrowed from indigenous languages, is frequently mispronounced; the correct stress falls on the second syllable: wih-LAM-it.
