Vaquero

Spanish cattle driver

A vaquero is a cattle herder or cowboy, specifically in the tradition of Spanish-speaking regions of the Americas.

The word comes from Spanish vaca (cow) and predates the English "cowboy"—much American ranching vocabulary and technique derives from vaquero culture.

The vaqueros drove the herd north through the desert.
