Town

Larger than village

A town is a populated area larger than a village but smaller than a city—though the boundaries are fuzzy and vary by region.

In casual speech, town often means whatever place you live or are visiting: I'll be in town next week, the best pizza in town.

To go to town on something is to do it enthusiastically or thoroughly.

To paint the town red is to go out celebrating.

Town sometimes contrasts with gown (university) in places where the two communities coexist uneasily.
