townswomen

Village's female inhabitants

Townswomen is the plural of townswoman—a female resident of a town, or a woman from one's own town.

The word distinguishes urban from rural residents and can mark local belonging: She greeted her fellow townswomen at the market.

Like many gendered terms, it appears less frequently than the gender-neutral townspeople.
