Théoden

Théoden is a character in J.R.R.

Tolkien's *The Lord of the Rings*, the aging King of Rohan who emerges from enchantment to lead his people in battle.

His arc from despair to heroic death at Pelennor Fields makes him a fan favorite.

The name sometimes appears in discussions of redemption or late-life courage: He had a real Théoden moment, finally standing up to his critics.
