Templars
Medieval warrior monks
Templars refers to the Knights Templar, a medieval Christian military order founded around 1119 to protect pilgrims traveling to the Holy Land.
The order amassed enormous wealth and influence before being violently suppressed in the early 14th century.
Their secretive reputation has made Templars a fixture in conspiracy theories and fiction: The novel featured Templars guarding ancient secrets.
The term sometimes extends to any secretive, powerful organization.
