Shi'ite

Twelver Muslim denomination

A Shi'ite is a Muslim belonging to the Shia branch of Islam, which holds that leadership of the faith should have passed through the Prophet Muhammad's family line, beginning with his son-in-law Ali.

Shi'ites constitute the majority in Iran, Iraq, and Bahrain, and significant minorities elsewhere.

The term appears as both noun and adjective: Shi'ite Muslims, Shi'ite militias.
