Salmon
Family name, perhaps
Salmon are large fish prized for their pink-orange flesh, found in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans and famous for swimming upstream to spawn in freshwater rivers.
The word also names the distinctive pinkish-orange color of their meat: a salmon-colored blouse.
Smoked salmon, often called lox, is a delicatessen staple.
Wild salmon populations have declined significantly, making farmed salmon increasingly common in markets and restaurants.
