Roman sculptures
Classical stone figures
Roman sculptures are three-dimensional artworks produced in ancient Rome, spanning roughly a thousand years from the Republic through the Empire.
The Romans excelled at realistic portrait busts and full-figure statues, often depicting emperors, gods, and notable citizens.
Much Roman sculpture drew heavily from Greek originals—many Greek masterpieces survive only as Roman copies.
The museum's collection of Roman sculptures includes several portrait busts from the Augustan period.
