Rand
South African money
Rand is the basic monetary unit of South Africa, divided into 100 cents.
The name comes from the Witwatersrand, the gold-rich ridge near Johannesburg.
Rand also appears as a surname, most notably the novelist and philosopher Ayn Rand, whose advocacy of rational self-interest influenced libertarian thought: He's been reading Rand again. (Lowercase rand is an archaic term for an edge or border.)
