Lolita

Young girl's name

Lolita is a 1955 novel by Vladimir Nabokov about a middle-aged European émigré's obsession with a twelve-year-old American girl, told from his perspective.

The book is considered a masterpiece of unreliable narration and English prose, though its subject matter remains controversial.

Lolita is also the name of the child herself, whose real name is Dolores Haze: Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins.

The novel has been adapted into films by Stanley Kubrick and Adrian Lyne. (Lowercase lolita refers to a sexually precocious girl or a Japanese fashion style.)
