baht

Bangkok's monetary unit

The baht is the official currency of Thailand, divided into 100 satang.

It takes its name from a traditional unit of weight used for measuring gold and silver.

In casual conversation among travelers and expatriates, prices are often quoted simply in baht: That street food cost me forty baht.

The currency symbol is ฿, though "THB" appears in formal financial contexts.
