Menominee

Great Lakes people

Menominee refers to an Indigenous people originally inhabiting the region around Lake Michigan, primarily in present-day Wisconsin, or a member of this nation.

The name comes from an Ojibwe word for wild rice, a staple of their traditional diet.

Menominee also designates their Algonquian language, now critically endangered.

The Menominee reservation lies in northeastern Wisconsin.
