PAR
Three-letter shorthand
Par is a standard that is used as the basis for comparison.
In golf, par is the standard number of strokes a player should take in a given hole.
In other contexts, par may be the value of a stock or bond, or the value of a currency.
Below par is used to characterize substandard performance or value.
Above par is used in the opposite way, but less frequently.
When two things are equal or equivalent, they are at par.
