bogey

One stroke over

A bogey in golf is a score of one stroke over par on a hole.

Beyond the links, bogey names something undesirable or troublesome—a persistent problem or source of worry.

In military contexts, a bogey is an unidentified aircraft, presumed hostile until proven otherwise.

British English also uses bogey for the dried nasal mucus that children (and some adults) pick from their noses.

As a verb, to bogey a hole means to complete it one over par.
