separable

Able to divide

Separable describes things that can be divided or taken apart.

A separable compound breaks into components; a separable question can be addressed in distinct parts.

In grammar, separable verbs allow words to come between their parts: "pick up" becomes pick it up.

The opposite is inseparable—bound together and unable to be divided.
