Napier

Port, North Island

Napier is a city on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island, known for its Art Deco architecture rebuilt after a devastating 1929 earthquake.

It also appears as a surname—most notably John Napier, the Scottish mathematician who invented logarithms in the early 17th century.

Napier's bones were his calculating device using numbered rods.
