El Greco

Elongated-figure painter

El Greco was a Greek-born painter (1541–1614) who worked mainly in Spain, known for elongated figures, dramatic lighting, and intense religious imagery.

His name is Spanish for "the Greek." His work, rediscovered centuries later, influenced Expressionism and modern art: an El Greco hanging in the Prado, that El Greco quality of tortured spirituality.
