King's Bench

English common law

King's Bench is a historical English court of common law, one of the superior courts at Westminster.

It handled criminal cases and civil matters involving the Crown, with the monarch theoretically presiding.

The name alternates with Queen's Bench depending on the reigning monarch's gender.

The case was appealed to the King's Bench.

The court was absorbed into the High Court of Justice in 1873, where a division retains the name.
