bencher
Senior Inn member
A bencher is a senior member of an Inn of Court in Britain—one of the governing lawyers who administer these legal societies.
The term extends to any person who sits on a bench in an official capacity.
In Canadian law, benchers are elected members who govern provincial law societies.
Informally, a bencher is someone who sits on a bench, especially an athlete kept on the sidelines: He spent most of the season as a bencher.
