Blackstone

English law authority

Blackstone most commonly refers to the English jurist Sir William Blackstone, whose *Commentaries on the Laws of England* (1765–1769) became foundational to Anglo-American legal education.

Law students still encounter Blackstone's formulations of common law principles.

The name also belongs to Blackstone Group, a major American private equity firm, and appears as a place name across the English-speaking world.
