Inner Mongolia
Gobi Desert territory
Inner Mongolia is an autonomous region of northern China, bordering Mongolia proper.
The distinction between Inner and Outer Mongolia dates to the Qing dynasty—Inner being closer to Beijing, Outer being the independent nation now called Mongolia.
The region is known for grasslands, the Gobi Desert, and ethnic Mongol culture within Chinese governance: She studied traditional herding practices in Inner Mongolia.
