Indo-Europeans

Ancient migratory peoples

Indo-Europeans are the ancient peoples who spoke the ancestral language from which most European languages and many South Asian languages descend.

The term also refers to their modern linguistic descendants—speakers of English, Hindi, Russian, Spanish, Persian, Greek, and dozens of other related tongues.

As an adjective, Indo-European describes this language family or the cultures associated with it: Indo-European migrations, Indo-European roots.
