Pontic steppe
Black Sea plains
The Pontic steppe is the vast grassland extending north of the Black Sea, stretching from present-day Ukraine through southern Russia to Kazakhstan.
This region served as a corridor for migrations and invasions throughout history, from Scythians to Mongols.
The name comes from Pontus, the ancient Greek term for the Black Sea.
