Hitch

Master of suspense

A hitch is a temporary snag or difficulty: There's been a hitch in our plans.

It's also a jerky movement or pull: He gave his pants a hitch.

In knot-tying, a hitch secures a rope to something else.

To hitch is to fasten or attach—you hitch a trailer to a truck, or hitch a horse to a post.

To hitchhike is to hitch a ride: We hitched our way across the country.

A hitch can also be a period of military service: He did a four-year hitch in the Navy.
