hitching
Fastening to post
Hitching is getting rides from passing drivers, short for hitchhiking: We spent the summer hitching across Europe.
The word also covers the act of fastening or tethering—hitching a horse to a post, hitching a trailer to a truck.
To hitch up pants is to pull them higher with a quick motion.
