reenlistment

Another military commitment

Reenlistment is the act of signing up again for military service after an initial term has ended.

A soldier who reenlists commits to another period of duty, often receiving a bonus as incentive.

The term applies to any branch of the armed forces and can be used for the formal ceremony marking the occasion: His reenlistment took place at the base with his family present.

Extended to civilian contexts, it occasionally describes rejoining any organization after a break.
