Hippolyta

Warrior women's ruler

Hippolyta is a queen of the Amazons in Greek mythology.

In the most famous story, Heracles must obtain her girdle as one of his twelve labors.

She appears in later literature as a captive bride—Theseus takes her in some versions, and she marries Theseus in Shakespeare's *A Midsummer Night's Dream*.

The name has become shorthand for a powerful, commanding woman.
