Headless Horseman
Pumpkin-throwing specter
The Headless Horseman is a ghostly figure from American folklore, a spectral rider who carries his severed head and terrorizes travelers.
The character appears most famously in Washington Irving's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" (1820), where he pursues the schoolteacher Ichabod Crane.
The image has become a Halloween staple representing supernatural menace: The yard display featured a headless horseman on a rearing horse.
