Ichabod Crane
Ichabod Crane is the gangly, superstitious schoolmaster in Washington Irving's story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" (1820), famously chased by the Headless Horseman.
The name has become shorthand for a tall, awkward, easily frightened figure: He had an Ichabod Crane look about him—all elbows and Adam's apple.
