Frankenstein's monster

Stitched-together abomination

Frankenstein's monster is the creature brought to life by Victor Frankenstein in Mary Shelley's 1818 novel.

The monster—not the scientist—is often mistakenly called "Frankenstein." In extended use, a Frankenstein's monster is any creation that turns destructive or uncontrollable, threatening its creator: The algorithm became a Frankenstein's monster, amplifying the very content it was designed to suppress.
