Victor Frankenstein
Victor Frankenstein is the protagonist of Mary Shelley's 1818 novel *Frankenstein*, a young scientist who creates a living creature from assembled corpses, then abandons it in horror.
The name is often mistakenly applied to the monster itself rather than its creator.
Frankenstein has become shorthand for anyone whose creation turns against them or escapes their control: Social media companies have become Frankensteins, unable to manage what they built.
