Dr. Moreau
Dr.
Moreau is a fictional scientist from H.G.
Wells's 1896 novel *The Island of Doctor Moreau*, who creates human-animal hybrids through vivisection.
The character has become shorthand for mad scientists who transgress ethical boundaries in pursuit of forbidden knowledge: The biotech company's CEO fancies himself a Dr. Moreau, splicing genes without regard for consequences.
