European Jews
Yiddish-speaking ancestral group
European Jews are Jewish people whose ancestry traces to Europe, particularly the Ashkenazi communities of Central and Eastern Europe.
The term often appears in historical contexts, especially discussions of the Holocaust, which decimated these populations: Six million European Jews were killed by the Nazis.
It may also distinguish this group from Sephardic, Mizrahi, or other Jewish communities with roots elsewhere.
