Essen

German industrial hub

Essen is a major city in western Germany, in the Ruhr industrial region.

Once the center of German coal and steel production, it has reinvented itself as a cultural and commercial hub.

The name is also the German infinitive meaning "to eat," and the noun for a meal: Das Essen war köstlich (The food was delicious).
