English people

Residents of England

English people are the inhabitants or natives of England, or those of English descent.

The term distinguishes them from the broader category of British people, which includes Scots, Welsh, and Northern Irish: The English people have a reputation for reserve.

English can function as both noun and adjective: She married an Englishman, English customs differ from Scottish ones.
