Emmentaler

Cheese with holes

Emmentaler is a Swiss cheese known for its distinctive large holes and mild, slightly nutty flavor.

Named after the Emmental valley in Switzerland where it originated, this pale yellow cheese has a firm texture and is commonly sliced for sandwiches or melted in fondue.

Outside Switzerland, similar cheeses are often labeled simply as "Swiss cheese." The Emmentaler had perfectly formed eyes throughout.
