Siam
Bangkok's old kingdom
Siam is the former name of Thailand, used until 1939 and briefly again from 1945 to 1949.
The word persists in certain fixed expressions: Siamese cats, Siamese twins (conjoined twins, from the famous 19th-century pair Chang and Eng).
The King and I is set in Siam.
