Cross-strait rail link
The Chunnel is the Channel Tunnel, the undersea rail tunnel connecting England and France beneath the English Channel.
The blend of *Channel* and *tunnel* has become the informal standard: We took the Chunnel to Paris.
Opened in 1994, it carries passenger trains, freight, and vehicles on shuttle services.
